The Resistance was the first Invasion story and the first story to appear in 2000AD Prog 1. It covers the original Volgan invasion of Britain and Savage's recruitment by the Resistance.

Synopsis[]

Part One[]

The Volgan Republic of Asia breaks through the N.A.T.O. Ring of Steel bordering the Volgan frontier, and goes on to invade Britain. A nuclear bomb is detonated in the midlands. Within eight hours, the Volgans are in full control of the country. The government surrenders and the royal family flee to exile in Canada. Lorry driver, Bill Savage returns home to find his house destroyed and his family killed. Retrieving his shotgun, he destroys a Volgan patrol vehicle, killing all the soldiers within it[1].

Part Two[]

Savage wipes out a Volgan tank crew in a south London pub and destroys their tank with a Molotov cocktail. This attracts the attention of Lt. Peter Silk[2].

Part Three[]

Simon Creepton is appointed Prime Minister of occupied Britain. Silk traces Savage to a transport cafe where he asks him to join the Resistance. Savage turns him down as Volg troops, alerted by the cafe owner, attempt to arrest them. Seeing that the Resistance would have been captured without his help, Savage accepts the offer to join, though on his own terms[3].

Part Four[]

Savage is taken on a tour of the Resistance secret base. The Brigadier introduces him to other non-military members of the Resistance but Savage finds a spy. Uncovered, the spy takes the Brigadier hostage to effect his escape, but Savage follows them, killing the spy and rescuing the Brigadier. Savage is made leader of the Mad Dogs resistance group[4].

Part Five[]

The Mad Dogs overrun a checkpoint and load looted explosives onto their van. Savage leads his team to Trafalgar Square, gives a brief speech to let the British people know that there is a British Resistance and then blows up Nelson's Column as Volgan tanks enter the square. The Mad Dogs escape to the Isle of Dogs, where they make their base[5].
